Good example of an early American textile/flax comb, probably early to mid 19th century. This untouched surface of the piece has a good feel, many smooth knife marks showing it was hand made by someone with some talent. It is large enough to add a little sculptural decoration to any collection of antique textile objects..Its hard to say things had a way of getting moved around over the many years. For you textile folks this is what it was used for and from my reserch it is a fine example.
