Rare, William Young and Company Porcelain Pitcher ca. 1853 - 1857 with embossed ivy leaves and relief suggesting knotted woody surface. William Young was English and first worked for Charles Cartlidge in Brooklyn, NY before coming to Trenton in 1853, where he was joined by his 3 sons and 2 other men: Richard Millington; and, John Astbury. This company was the first porcelain manufacturer in Trenton. There is a similar pitcher (also unmarked) in ALice Cooney Freelinghyusen's book: "American Porcelain" for the Metropolitan Museum of Art, illustrated on page 121. Here, she illustrates a pitcher from the New Jersey State Museum which measures 7 1/2 inches. This one is only 5" tall
