 Rare signed New Jersey Fraktur one of 2 known birth records signed by this artist.One of these birth records is in the collection of the Philadelphia's free Library it announces Rhoda Slacks birth inscribed “RHODA SLACK/was Born June 8th 1810/Made by Elias Slack September 30th 1829”. The 2nd example for sale is commemorating the Birth of Moore Scott it is inscribed” MOORE SCOTT/Was Born AUT 18th 1818” Moore Scoots birth date is registered in the 1880 census as follows,Born in New Jersey in 1818 at 62 years of age he was working as a Carpenter.

Elias Slack is mentioned in the New Jersey History volume 105, Spring -Summer 1987,an article written by David B, McGrail on page 41 is titled ”Late 18th and Early 19th centuryIlluminatedDocuments-An introduction and check list” The article mentions the birth certificate of Rhoda Slacks birth in 1818 signed and dated in 1829 by Elias Slack who perhaps was a Burlington County resident. This colorful piece is creased and has tight tear lines at folds,also losses to the word “born” overall even toning. It measures 9 1/2 x 14 inches.I have read that one of the ingredients in some early black ink was acidic as seen here. Professionally framed and conserved in a contemporary red painted frame.
